Only 10 days before I go to Vietnam with my family. It's been 33 years since I left and did not get a chance to say good bye to my grand mother, aunties, uncles and cousins.
My parents didn't tell us we were leaving for good in fear that my eldest brother, Minh might run away. They wanted a find a better a future for us all after the the Vietnam war.
So, I have mixture of emotions, excited, nervous, a little worried. It was another life time which I'm now ready to go back and re-visit my childhood memories and meet my family.
I'm really looking forward to introducing my children, Jack, Rosa and my husband Daniel. We have been planning this trip for awhile. I can't believe I'm finally going back to my birth place!
I've been cooking Vietnamese food non stop, especially trying to re-create some of my favourite dishes from years ago. It's amazing, the smell and the flavours brings back so many memories. Really looking forward to eating my way through the North to South Vietnam.
Me and my family in Hong Kong 1979. Guess which one is me?
